Adtalem, Google Cloud Launch AI Credential for Clinicians

Adtalem Global Education has announced a partnership with Alphabet’s Google Cloud to launch a first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence credential program designed for healthcare students and professionals. The initiative, set to debut in 2026, aims to prepare clinicians to safely and effectively integrate AI into their daily medical practice.

The new program will provide hands-on experience using Google Cloud’s AI tools, including Gemini models and Vertex AI services. Students and practicing clinicians across Adtalem’s network — including Chamberlain University and Walden University — will have the opportunity to earn a credential certifying their proficiency in applying AI technologies in healthcare environments.

Adtalem said the curriculum will feature coursework on AI applications in clinical care, ethical and safety standards, and practical training on healthcare-specific AI tools that are increasingly being adopted in hospitals and clinics.

The program launch comes as healthcare systems nationwide race to adopt AI for tasks ranging from diagnostics to administrative workflows — a transformation that has outpaced many clinicians’ readiness to use such tools effectively.

“Our partnership with Google Cloud gives our students a competitive edge in their careers — whether they’re treating patients, providing mental health counseling, or leading healthcare teams,” said Michael Betz, Adtalem’s chief digital officer.

“Our graduates will enter the workforce confident in using AI to enhance their clinical decisions, spend less time on paperwork, and more time connecting with patients.”

Adtalem serves more than 91,000 students and has 365,000 alumni worldwide. The company said the collaboration reflects its mission to address critical workforce shortages in healthcare through technology-driven education.

Brent Mitchell, vice president of Google Public Sector, said the initiative is designed to ensure healthcare professionals adopt AI “safely, responsibly and effectively.”

The partnership also comes amid a period of significant strain on the U.S. healthcare workforce. A Harris Poll conducted last month revealed that more than half of U.S. healthcare workers are actively considering leaving their current jobs. The same survey found that 42 percent fear AI could replace aspects of their work, while only 41 percent feel comfortable using AI tools in their roles.

Through this initiative, Adtalem and Google Cloud aim to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and confidence to use AI effectively — enhancing patient care while supporting the well-being and efficiency of clinicians.
