Chicago Steel announce acquisition of two new players

The Chicago Steel will have two new players in its roster soon. The team announced the acquisition of two players today. The Steel traded with the Fargo Force to acquire Jack Bar. The preliminary watch list of NHL Central Scouting ranked Bar as a B-Level prospect. This watch list was released by the National Hockey League (NHL) on October 27.

The native of Newmarket, Ontario played for St. Andrew’s College in Aurora, Ontario in the 2019-20 season as a defenseman. He played 49 games in which he scored 18 goals and 34 assists. He led his position with 52 points in total during this season. He also served as an alternative captain for the Saints. The Steel has acquired the rights of Bar.

The Steel selected Simon Latkoczy in the USHL dispersal draft in September. Latkoczy is former netminder of the Madison Capitols. The Capitols suspended its operations for the 2019-20 season in September. Latkoczy is a native of Trencin, Slovakia. In December and January, he played for his country in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.

He achieved a goals-against average of 2.61 and save percentage of .922 in the three games he played for Slovakia. Ian Shane, the netminder of the Steel, has been sent by the club to Bismarck of the North American Hockey League under a trade. In 2020-21 season, Shane achieved a goals-against average of 4.34 and save percentage of .837. He represented the Steel in 21 games last season.

The Steel will face two Western Conference opponents this weekend at home. It will face the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday at 7:05 pm. The game against the Waterloo Black Hawks will be played on Saturday at 7:05 pm at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Both of these games are presented by Waubonsee Community College.
