Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs
The Cincinnati Reds have beaten the Chicago Cubs 6-5. Yasiel Puig was the man of the moment as his single in 10th helped the Reds get over the line. The match was played at the Great American Ball Park on May 15, 2019 in Cincinnati, Ohio as the away team had faced a lost. Yasiel Puig had been struggling with form but came away with an important win for his team.
The bases were loaded in the 10th inning as the struggling outfielder hit an RBI single on Wednesday night. His single had helped the team just win over the Cubs with a score 0f 6-5. When he hit the ball, he tossed his bat away in celebration. His teammates had joined in on the celebration and was soaked with ice water. He also said, “I finally made contact. That was amazing.” That hit took a lot of pressure away from him and he had a disappointing team with the Reds till now. He had gotten to the Reds by trading away from the Dodgers.
Before coming out to bat in the 10th inning against Brad Brach (3-1), he was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. In the 10th inning when he came out to bat, the bases were loaded and the Cubs changed their game plan. They anticipated a groundball and had used five infielders.
It came as a shocker as Puig had droved a ball to the center which had hit the base of the wall. He had flipped his bat away in celebration. Puig is batting at only .212. The manager David Bell was full of praise for the outfielder as he said that he brings energy to the team and wasn’t defensive at that time. He had seen the opportunity at the time and took it with full responsibility.
Cubs: Jose Quintana (4-2) is 4-1 with a 2.29 ERA in his last six starts. The left-hander is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts at Great American Ball Park.
Reds: Luis Castillo (4-1) went 2-1 in five starts against the Cubs last season with a 4.74 ERA.
