Joe Biden, the former vice-president of the US, said on Wednesday, “Trump is the country’s first racist president.” The Service Employees International Union organized a virtual town hall in which Biden participated as a presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Biden blasted on Trump when a question came about the racism surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.
Donald J. Trump, the president of the US, called it the “China virus” in the past. Biden said, “The way he deals with people based on the color of their skin, their national origin, where they are from, is absolutely sickening.” The former vice-president added that no president had ever done this. According to Biden, Trump is the first racist president who has been elected by Americans.
Biden added that Trump was using racism to distract people from his mishandlings of the pandemic. He added, “No sitting president has ever done this. Never, never, never. No Republican president has done this. No Democratic president.” However, he admitted that many racists tried to get elected as the president of the US.
George Washington, the first president of the US, owned slaves. The protests against institutional racism pushed Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the US, to have his name removed from Princeton University’s public policy school. Wilson was a supporter of segregation in the early 20th century. He also imposed it on several federal agencies.
Trump replied to Biden’s criticism on Wednesday, “I have done more for Black Americans than anybody with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln.” Katrina Pierson, a senior advisor for Trump’s reelection campaign, blasted on Biden, “Nobody needs to take lectures on racial justice from Joe Biden.” Moreover, it is not the first time when Biden called Trump a “racist.” Biden said that he was compelled to participate in the presidential election due to Trump’s racist actions.
