Custom officials seized African rat meat from passenger at O’Hare Airport

A man was disillusioned by the Custom and Border Protection officers at O’Hare International Airport. He was attempting to import the African rat meat. The custom officials seized the meat of the African rat from the passenger at airport.

The Department of Agriculture of the United States of America declared that the African Swine Fever is a threatening disease which affects the local and wild pigs. That is why the African rat meat was seized from the passenger at the airport. There is no threat of the disease on the humans, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Steve Bansbach, spokesperson of Customs and Border Protection, said, “The man declared 32 pounds of African rat meat on June 26. His flight arrived at O’Hare Airport from Ivory Coast”. He added, “The meat was confiscated from him and then destroyed by the officials”. The action was taken in terms of the threat of African Swine Fever which is a dangerous disease for the pigs. The disease is not dangerous for human being, according to Custom and Border Protection agent.

Bansbach also said that the man was not fined and he continued his journey. He declared what he was bringing into the country that is why he was not fined, according to Custom Officials. African meat has banned to take into the United States by the Custom and Border Protection officials. This prohibition is related to the prevention of the spread of Swine Fever virus in the country.

The department of Agriculture said that this disease is never found in the United States but African meat tends to bring this virus in the country. The Customs officials prohibit to import African meat on the base of the recommendations of the department. The person was not fined for brining the meat as he was forthcoming of what he was bringing into the country. He continued his journey but the meat was seized by the custom officials.
