Prosecutors impose new bribery charges on R. Kelly

R. Kelly, a renowned singer, has been charged with new bribery charges related to his 1994 marriage to a teenager. The New York City prosecutors hit indicted R. Kelly with new charges on Thursday. The singer has been accused in a federal court in Brooklyn in the form of a revised indictment.
The indictment said that R. Kelly was involved in scheming with others to pay for a fraudulent identification document on August 30, 1994. He paid for a false document for Jane Doe, according to the indictment. The singer was 27-year-old at that time. On the next day, he married Aaliyah D. Haughton, a 15-year-old R&B singer. Kelly arranged a secret marriage ceremony at a local hotel in Chicago for his marriage.
According to the indictment, the marriage was annulled a few months later due to the age of Haughton. Douglas Anton, the defense attorney, said, “The new indictment against his client is ridiculous and absurd.” The prosecutors have already charged R. Kelly with sexual exploitation, forced labor, kidnapping, and racketeering.
The prosecutors indicted R. Kelly with the charges of being involved in picking up girls and women from the concerts and grooming them for sexual abuse. He took the help of his assistants and employees in this regard. R. Kelly, now 52-year-old, is currently present in federal custody without bond. He will be presented in the federal court in Chicago for facing the charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice in April.
After facing the trial in Chicago, he will come to Brooklyn for facing the new charges. R. Kelly is facing a huge number of charges. He is currently being held without bond in Chicago. His attorney called the new charges filed against him “ridiculous and absurd”. The new indictments of sexual exploitation, forced labor, kidnapping, and racketeering have been filed against the 52-year-old singer in Brooklyn.
