India: Pregnant elephant died of consuming fruit filled with firecrackers

A pregnant elephant died in a forest of Kerala, a state in India. According to the news sources, the pregnant elephant ate pineapple that was filled with firecrackers. The firecrackers injured the elephant badly upon blasting inside her body. Later on, she lost her life in the forest. According to the wildlife officials of India, the investigation of her death has begun.

The pregnant elephant stood injured in Velliyar rive in the Palakkad District of Kerala for three days before dying. Mohan Krishnan, an animal rights activist, highlighted the death of the pregnant elephant on May 30 in his Facebook post. He updated the people about the brutal killing of a pregnant animal in Kerala.

Krishan wrote in his post that he was deeply saddened due to the death of the elephant. He said that the pregnant elephant was just like her sister. He apologized to her in his post. According to the Indian Forest Department, the elephant died on May 27 while she consumed the fruits filled with firecrackers on May 23 or May 24.

The Forest officials confirmed that the cause of her death was firecrackers blasted inside her body. She got heavily injured due to the blast of firecrackers. According to the postmortem report, her teeth and jaw were injured badly. She stood in the river for three days without eating anything and died there. She was seen wandering for food before her death, according to the Wildlife Department’s officials.

The Facebook post of Krishnan went viral on social media. People from all across India shared their condolences for the elephant. The Indian media kept reporting the news related to her death on June 2 and June 3. According to the report of Reuters, an international news agency, the residents of India shared their anger and sadness on social media upon the death of the pregnant elephant. Indian police have started the investigation of the case. According to the police officials, they have started the criminal investigation of the case against the unknown criminals.
