Surdna Foundation awards $1.2 Million to ThreeWalls
ThreeWalls, a non-profit organization, announced that it received a $1.2 million award from Surdna Foundation. The organization will now be able to spend $300000 per year for the next three years to develop its programs further. It aims to provide funds and develop projects for the identification of the artists based in Chicago. The focus of the organization is on ALAANA (African, Latin, Asian, Arab, Native American) artists based in Chicago.
RaD Lab+Outside the Walls, a social justice fellowship of ThreeWalls, will grant $25000 to 12 artists per year. The social justice fellowship aims to reimagine the racial justice and equity in the community on the base of research and public projects. This program for initiated in 2017 for highlighting the lack of funding and artistic support for the ALAANA artists in Chicago.
The three-year grant will provide opportunities to ThreeWalls to invest in artists for creating awareness about a racially just society in the form of arts. The grant will allow ThreeWalls to support the ALAANA artists and provide operational funds to the non-profits. The main aim of the fellows will be to highlight different ways towards racial equality by focusing on social justice. The RaD+Outside the Walls program allows the fellows to research, develop, and test an idea for one year.
People get access to the arts easily as they are placed on the public places by the Outside the Walls. Jeffreen M. Hayes, the executive director of ThreeWalls, said, “We are thrilled about our partnership with Surdna Foundation.” The award from the Foundation will help the organization to expand its support for the black artists, she added.
The main purpose of ThreeWalls is to create awareness about a racially just society through artistic ideas. Hayes added, “The radical imagination that Surdna encourages is what ThreeWalls practices every day.” F. Javier Torres-Campos, the Surdna Foundation’s director of the Thriving Cultures program, said, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with ThreeWalls.” ThreeWalls also manages coaching, workshops, and counseling for the technical and creative development.
